Mom’s journey

My mother was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2012, and she underwent a surgical procedure to remove it the cancer from her left arm. At the time, the doctors chose not to pursue chemotherapy or radiation. She underwent follow-up for a year or two, but there was a period where she did not continue monitoring.

In October 2022, she began losing a significant amount of weight, became weak, experienced recurring pains, and despite medication, there was no relief. We started investigating to determine the cause. After blood tests, ultrasound, CT scans, biopsies, the results revealed metastatic cancer in the kidney, nodules in the lungs, brain, and intestines.

The Brazilian public healthcare system (SUS) has been instrumental in her treatment. She underwent a round of chemotherapy, which left her extremely weak, almost making us lose hope. However, with considerable effort, she gradually recovered, and with the assistance of lawyers, the government approved her treatment with immunotherapy, allowing her to start the treatment without needing chemotherapy.

We have already overcome:
1 laser surgery for the complete removal of two brain tumors.
We are celebrating a 30% reduction in the remaining tumors.
We continue with faith that the treatment will proceed regularly and that the results will remain positive!

I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.

Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words ‘you have cancer’.

Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis, but there’s still so much work to be done.

Cancer Council needs our support more than ever this year. Every dollar raised gives hope for a cancer free future. By supporting my event, you’re funding life-saving cancer treatments, prevention programs, and support services that ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
