I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.
Hello all, my name is Srishikha and I would like to share my journey heading up to do the BIG Hair Chop in November.
I was 3 years old, after watching Tangled movie I asked my mum for a Rapunzel themed birthday party.
Mum laughed and said, “You don’t have long hair, yet.”
That is when I decided that as I grow older, I will grow my hair and have an actual Rapunzel Birthday Party, when I am older.
Years went by and my little sister came along. My mum needed help with kids pick up, this brought Rose into our life. Rosanna Catherine Bertocchi, our Rose, she loved us and taught us to be thankful. When she brushed my hair, she would say “You are lucky to have such thick black locks, kids of your age don’t get to keep them this long or cannot grow them because of health reasons.” I was too little to understand, instead I would tell her my dream of having a Rapunzel Birthday Party.
January 2020, Rose was diagnosed with breast cancer and within months we lost her. I miss her a lot and happen to recollect our conversation where she once told me, if I ever changed my mind and wish to cut my hair, she encouraged me to fundraise and donate my hair for a cause. I connected to this idea, but I was still keen on celebrating my Rapunzel Themed Birthday Party.
June 2022, my grandma (Banumathi) was diagnosed with Brain Tumor, for surgical procedures they had to shave my grandma's hair, now I understand what Rose told me years ago.
I have also learned that there are several cancers that don’t have a cure and research costs a lot of money.
So, here I am turning 12 in a couple of days, I don’t want a Rapunzel Themed Birthday Party, instead I wish to fundraise for cancer research, please support me with your donations and best wishes for a great cause, thank you.
