Hair for Hope: Support Sifat's Shave to Make a Difference!

Embracing Change: My Journey with the Cancer Council Fundraiser

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I'm writing to you today with a mix of emotions—excitement, empowerment, and a touch of vulnerability. Recently, I took a bold step in solidarity with those battling cancer: I shaved my hair. For one last time, I slept with my 4+ years' long and cherished hair tied with a rubber band last night. From this moment onwards, no more morning and night hair brushing, no more hair-care routines, no more weekend hair packs, and no more sleeping with my hair tied!

This decision wasn't made lightly; it was a personal choice to raise funds for the Cancer Council and support their incredible work in cancer research, prevention, and support services.

For many of us, our hair is deeply intertwined with our identity. It’s a part of how we present ourselves to the world, a symbol of individuality and style. Choosing to shave it off was a symbolic gesture—a way to physically manifest my commitment to the cause, and to stand with those who bravely fight cancer every day.

The decision to participate in this fundraiser came from a place of deep empathy and a desire to make a meaningful impact. Cancer has touched the lives of so many people I know and love, as it likely has for many of you reading this. Whether it’s a family member, a friend, or even our own personal battles, cancer leaves an indelible mark on those it affects.

Through this experience, I've learned first-hand the power of community and the generosity of spirit that exists in our world. The support I received—whether through donations, messages of encouragement, or simply sharing my journey—has been overwhelming and deeply touching. It reaffirms my belief in the goodness of people and the strength we find in coming together for a common cause.

Beyond the physical act of shaving my head, this fundraiser has been a journey of personal growth. It challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, confront my insecurities, and embrace a new version of myself. It's a reminder that true beauty and strength come from within, and that sometimes, the most impactful actions are the ones that require us to be bold and vulnerable.

To everyone who has supported me on this journey—thank you. Your kindness, generosity, and belief in this cause have made a tangible difference. Together, we are contributing to vital research, supporting patients and their families, and working towards a future where cancer is no longer a devastating diagnosis.

As my hair begins to grow back, I carry with me the memories and lessons of this experience. I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to something bigger than myself, and inspired by the resilience of those fighting cancer every day.

Let's continue to stand together, united in our determination to make a difference. Together, we can create a world where cancer no longer has the power to take lives and shatter dreams.

With heartfelt thanks and warmest regards!

Bald for a Cause: Join Me in Shaving for Cancer!

Hey everyone,

I have some exciting news – on July 15th, I'll be shaving my head to raise funds for cancer research! It's a big step, but one I'm taking with all my heart.

Why am I doing this? Because cancer has touched my life and the lives of so many others. By shaving my head, I hope to raise awareness and funds that will make a real difference. Every dollar counts, whether it's $5 or $500, because together, we can support vital research, patient care, and initiatives that bring hope to those fighting cancer.

I've booked my appointment at the salon, and I'm ready to go bald for a cause that means so much to me. But I can't do it alone – I need your support. Here's how you can help:

Donate: Contribute whatever you can. Your donation will directly support cancer research and patient support programs.

Spread the Word: Share this post with your friends, family, and colleagues. Awareness is key, and your network can amplify our impact.

Join the Movement: Consider joining me by shaving your head too, or host your own fundraising event. Together, we can make a powerful statement of solidarity and support.

I'm incredibly grateful for your support in advance. Let's come together to make a difference and show cancer that we're in this fight together – until we find a cure.

Thank you!

P.S. Stay tuned for updates and photos from my shave day – it's going to be a memorable journey!

(Almost) 20% Reached

On our very first day, we've already reached nearly 20% of our goal, thanks to your support. Please consider donating as you see fit and, most importantly, sharing this with your friends and family!

I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.

Just 7 months after I left Bangladesh to pursue my dreams in Melbourne, Australia, winter was looming as I trudged home after another exhausting day at university. The chill in the air matched the heaviness in my heart when a text from my sibling shattered my world. My beloved mother, back home, had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Acute Myeloblastic Leukaemia. In a whirlwind of disbelief and agony, she fought bravely for a month and a half. Yet, before I could tell her how deeply I cherished her, she slipped away, leaving a void that no words can describe.

Not long after this devastating news, cancer had claimed my paternal aunt after a valiant struggle. More recently, a bright young soul I once mentored in high school, now newly married and under 30, faces stomach cancer and impending gastrectomy. And just weeks ago, a respected colleague began her own battle with cancer, she is currently waiting for surgeries and chemotherapy.

Cancer isn't just a disease; it's a relentless force that tears through families and friendships, leaving behind anguish and uncertainty. In countries like mine, where healthcare costs soar, many face cancer without adequate treatment or support.

Approaching my 30th birthday, I realize it's been since the first COVID-19 lockdown in Melbourne that I last had a haircut. In solidarity and with a heart full of hope, I commit to shaving my locks to make a tangible difference. I am raising funds for Cancer Council Victoria to propel critical research, extend compassionate patient support, and educate communities about this relentless adversary. I implore you all to stand with me in this fight. Together, we can bring light to those facing the darkest of times.
