Not just a hair cut

By Sharon Lau

I did it!

I got the hair chopped off by a lovely hairdresser at the Hairhouse Warehouse in Plenty Valley Westfield, to be donated via Sustainable Salon network.

Hopefully it will go towards making someone happier ?

And just like that...

After letting my hair grow for nearly two years, it is finally long enough to do the chop!

As some of you may know, cancer is unfortunately not a stranger in my life. My dad died of liver cancer 18 years ago, when I was 15, in 2004; one of his sister died from pancreatic cancer in 2019; my mother-in-law died of ovarian cancer in 2020.

Not a day goes by that I don't think about them and everyday I try to live my life a way that would make them proud.

In a small way, I want to contribute to something that could go towards making someone's diagnosis a little easier. If a small donation towards research does not equate to curing any cancer in the world, at least it potentially mean that someone get access to services, or it can be funding for counciling and education so that the Big C seems a little less scary.

If you want to help out, any contribution would be greatly appreciated. If not, hey, you will see me with a fresh hair cut soon.

I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.

Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words ‘you have cancer’.

Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis, but there’s still so much work to be done.

Cancer Council needs our support more than ever this year. Every dollar raised gives hope for a cancer free future. By supporting my walk, you’re funding life-saving cancer treatments, prevention programs, and support services that ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
