Strands of Hope

By Anaaya Lokuge

I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.

I’m donating my hair to help those facing cancer who have lost not only their hair but also their confidence. I feel so fortunate to have grown long, healthy hair, and I want to share that privilege with someone who needs it. When my close friend went through chemotherapy, she lost all her hair, and I’ll never forget how much she and her family suffered during that time. I remember wishing I could cut my own hair and glue it onto her head, just to help her feel beautiful again. That feeling has stayed with me ever since, and this donation is my way of turning that wish into action—helping someone feel confident, hopeful, and cared for during such a difficult journey.

Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words “you have cancer.” Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis—but there’s still so much work to be done. Cancer Council needs our support more than ever. Every dollar raised gives hope for a cancer-free future. By supporting my fundraiser, you’re helping fund life-saving treatments, prevention programs, and support services to ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
