Ride for Buttercup to the Sky

By Pieter van der Berg

Ride day

Good morning

Due to road closures in the Dandenongs this weekend I am not going to be able to summit Mount Dandenong as planned, I have adjusted my route slightly for that. But with a maximum of only 10, small hail and rain I am looking forward to the day on the bike. You can follow me on the link below.

Change to ride date

I want to thank everyone who has so far contributed, each and every one of your contributions to this cause is truly appreciated, when I set the target never imagined that I will even be able to get close to it.

Having being in Melbourne and the impact the Covid lockdown over the last month, it had a big impact on my training for the ride and I had to make the hard decision to postpone it for a week, to try and get an extra week of training in but looking at our weekend weather weekend prediction of real cold and rain and long term looking better for next weekend, I might have made a wise call on it.  With that there was extensive damage caused in the Dandenong ranges with a winter storm 2 weeks ago I won't be able to do the route originally planned, so I am still in process of finalizing the final route, but will in all probability have to bring the distance down to about 100km's that is still a long in the saddle for me as the longest I have been able to do during my training rides is 79km.

I will post the live tracking to my ride, just before I start the ride on the morning and you will be able to track my progress online.

Thanks again for everyone's support

I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop breast cancer.

Seeing the pain and suffering that someone close to you have to go through after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Looking at their fight and motivation through the process. Having to mentally battle to get ready for every set of tests, hoping it is the last one and then having to hear there is more to come and the result is not what is hoped for. To their battle to get ready for each round of treatment. I would like to use this to honor my Buttercup through doing the ride to the sky. My ride is planned to be 126km, starting and ending at Fed Square ,her favourite place in Melbourne, with the halfway point being Sky High at Mount Dandenong.

My Buttercup is the motivation for this day, her fight and positive attitude is the reason for me honoring her on the day before her last chemo treatment. I will post a Garmin Livetrack link on the  day for anyone to view my progress.

Cancer Council Victoria:

Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words ‘you have cancer’.

Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis, but there’s still so much work to be done.

Cancer Council needs our support more than ever this year. Every dollar raised gives hope for a cancer free future. By supporting my pink event, you’re funding life-saving cancer treatments, prevention programs, and support services that ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
