I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.
Charlotte has a big heart!
A few years ago, a family friend donated her hair and raised money for charity. In the process, we learned that charities that accept hair donations often struggle to find naturally grey or red hair. Charlotte was only very young at the time, so we decided to grow her hair and see if we could grow it long enough to donate.
As Charlotte got older, we started explaining to her that every year there are many children who a diagnosed with big illnesses and that sometimes due to the illness or treatment, those children loose their hair. We watched clips of children sharing their stories, both of how loosing their hair made them feel, but also how a gift of a wig would boost their confidence, enhancing their well-being and help with the social aspect due their treatments.
Charlotte wanted to help! So, she continued to grow her hair and started telling those who would compliment her what she wanted to do.
Charlotte has grown her hair so that we can now donate it to an organisation called Sustainable Salons who specialise in making wigs for children, especially those with alopeacia. She will be cutting her hair to just above her shoulders, which will be a huge change for our 7 year old! Her hair chop will be at the end of June.
We also know that many of us are touched by cancer and so wanted to raise some money towards research and helping families.
Whatever you can give is very much appreciated! We are so proud of Charlotte and her huge heart for helping others.
Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words ‘you have cancer’.
Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis, but there’s still so much work to be done.
Cancer Council needs our support more than ever this year. Every dollar raised gives hope for a cancer free future. By supporting my walk, you’re funding life-saving cancer treatments, prevention programs, and support services that ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
