I got the cut!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this cause. I didn't expect you all would help push this well over the goal amount. I'm so appreciative of the donations. Today I got the cut. I added some new photos to my Cancer Council Victoria dashboard. The team at the barber shop Kings Domain South Yarra surprised me at the end and offered the cut free of charge! Not only did I walk out the door feeling lighter and free, I had a huge smile thanks to everyone's generosity. What a day!Update

Hi everyone and welcome to my fundraising page,
Those of you who know me well will note that my long hair has been something that I'm quite proud of and that it has been linked to my identity and sense of individualism for many years.
After a long period of contemplation, I am ready to say my final goodbye to my long hair and have it cut short.
Some of you won't understand why I'm making such a big deal about my hair. But for all the fuss I'm making, I hope it compels you to donate for a very good cause.
I intent to donate my hair to Sustainable Salons as they distribute hair to people who experience hairloss as a result of illness. This means a lot to me as I was diagnosed with a skin disorder on my scalp and have been living with it since I was a teenager. But I have been very lucky in the fact that it has not caused significant hairloss and my scarring is minimal. I have undergone all kinds of treatments including heavy medication which made the skin on my arms peel and left me sensitive to sunlight. I also used to receive 8-10 steroid injections in my scalp every 8 weeks to bring this condition under control. I can sympathsise with people diagnosed with illnesses that affect skin and that can lead to hairloss. But I am definately still one of the lucky ones.
This fundraising page is also in dedication to my friends and family that I've lost over the years due to cancer. Nearly everyone I've known diagnosed with cancer has passed away too young. I hope that someday we can find a cure and prevent the sadness and loss cancer brings to our loved ones.
