The Chop

On Monday, October 11th, I will be braving the razor, and shaving my head to raise awareness for cancer research in Australia. The money raised through this fundraiser will go towards cancer research, treatments, prevention programs & support services. I will be donating my hair to Sustainable Salons, where it will be made into wigs for those experiencing hair loss as a result of their illness. 

This cause is very close to my heart, after seeing the effects of cancer within my own family. This illness affects not only the patient but also those around them, the impacts being felt for a lifetime. While the diagnosis & treatment is confronting enough, the loss of hair during this process can be just as traumatic for patients & their families. 

I have seen many family members in my lifetime diagnosed with & battle against cancer, each of them being tested not only physically but mentally, & each of them proving just how strong they are. The perseverance & courage they showed through their adversities has truly inspired me. 

After seeing these battles, & many outcomes, I have made it my aim to pursue cancer research in the future. Through the work of the Cancer Council & many other organisations, we can move towards a cure for this deadly illness.

Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words ‘you have cancer’.

Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis, but there’s still so much work to be done.

Cancer Council needs our support more than ever this year. Every dollar raised gives hope for a cancer free future. By supporting my shave, you’re funding life-saving cancer treatments, prevention programs, and support services that ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
