Early Detection Saves Lifes

Currently Cancer Free

After my 5 operations, I finally received some good news that my doctors have removed all my tumours and I am now cancer free.

Around September 2021 I might still need to have radioactive-iodine on my Thyriod but as my levels are pretty bad at the moment I wasn’t able to start the treatment.

However, I am starting to feel a little normal again but each day is different. My medication throws me around a little but I am able to now exercise which makes me feel 10 times better by just being able to add that back into my daily routine again.

My Journey

Towards the start of the year in 2020, I felt a lump near my underarm, it felt like a little rock was under my skin. I never once thought it was anything important due to me only being 24 at the time, I was under the impression it was just a swollen lymph node as that’s what my first doctor had told me.

I then had to go to another doctor to have my ingrown toenail cut out (gross lol) but by doing that I had him check the lump for a second opinion and from then on I had to have scans and biopsy’s. I was instantly referred to a breast doctor after my results were back and my life as I knew it was changed forever. I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

I am very fortunate that mine was caught at an early stage. My treatment is only in tablet form for the next 5-10 years and I've only just had a mastectomy in March 2021 as I had an infection which caused a major delay in my surgery after my tumour was removed.

The hospital wanted me to undergo a full body scan to ensure there wasn’t anything else going on as my type of cancer wasn’t hereditary.

My scan came back with another lump in my thyroid, after my biopsy results were back I was then diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

I’ve had half my thyroid removed and once my tests came back it had spread outside of my Thyriod into my neck lymph nodes.

I will now be having my second surgery to have the rest of my Thyriod removed.

I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.

Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words ‘you have cancer’.

Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis, but there’s still so much work to be done.

Cancer Council needs our support more than ever this year. Every dollar raised gives hope for a cancer free future. By supporting my walk, you’re funding life-saving cancer treatments, prevention programs, and support services that ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
