"The Breast" Shave

By Modesty & Nandita

Seven Days.

Exactly.

We are overwhelmed with the support of our community.

But we aren't above betting we can do even more than we already have.

As we have explained a few times, this is a cause close to our hearts. Most recently, and our biggest push for this, has been Nasrin's diagnosis with Breast Cancer.

Modesty's family has had many Cancer diagnosis'. Modesty's paternal grandfather ultimately passed away from lung cancer, spreading through his body, while her maternal grandmother had both breasts removed from multiple (secretive) fights with breast cancer.

Nandita hasn't had much better luck. Five of Nandita's maternal great uncles and aunts have battled and lost their lives to Cancer. :(

With a cause so close to our hearts, how could we not want to strive for bigger and better support, change and assistance for people who suffer so greatly?

Can we see a $2500?

xx
Modesty & Nandita.

Final Weeks With Overwhelming Support!

We're on the final stretch of this incredibly humbling journey that Nandita and I have taken.

We've seen incredible support from our friends and family, coworkers and customers to our store, and we couldn't be more proud of the changes their donations are making for everyone living with cancer.

We've been featured in Priceline's Team matters internal communication newsletter, naming us a "Dynamic Duo".

But the most humbling of all has been increasing our fundraising goal THREE TIMES! Because you have all been so incredibly generous towards a cause so close to al of our hearts.

And we thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Our shave date is the 19th of September. It is fast approaching.

Nandita is nervous.

Modesty is excited.

And we couldn't imagine doing it for any other cause.

Cancer, and what it means to me, to us

Personally cancer has affected both sides of my family from mum and dad’s side  with great aunts and uncles affected. I truly think the best we can do is support the warriors out there surviving with cancer and battling through each day. Not forgetting remembering each day the ones who have left us and watch us now from up above <3

I’ve always said I wanted to shave my head. I never thought I’d actually consider going through with it.

I’ve been known for changing my hair colour up. My first dye job was 5 henna “streaks” (big fat strips) when I was about 10. Around 13, I went purple, then I bleached it to a dark blonde, then put a black box dye over it.

When I was 15, I shaved the side of my head, as was the fashion. It was the middle of winter, and I couldn’t decide if it was the best or worst decision of my short life. I eventually bleached the shave, and let it grow out with bright blonde tips.

At 17, I had my mum give me an ombré bleach. It wasn’t my best look, and I cut it all off the day before my high school graduation.

At 18, I took off for Europe. Three months of pure freedom. Of course i coloured my hair an orangey pink, new adventure, new me, right? Oh, and gave myself bangs. Yikes.

When I came back from that trip, I was told I wasn’t allowed to work with pink hair (thx KFC), so I went back to blonde. I always thought I looked good blonde, but that never stopped me from playing with it.

Shortly after the last fated black box dye of my life (2018), I started my hairdressing course. Between student done washes, blow dries, cuts, treatments and colours, we tried, and barely made it back to blonde again, but, of course, I still wasn’t satisfied. I was adamant for a half head look, and almost melted my hair achieving the pink and purple colours.

It was truly then, I started saying “if it doesn’t work, I’ll just shave it”, never actually, properly thinking I would do so. I always joked if I didn’t like a cut, if I damaged my hair, or if it just didn’t work, I could always start fresh.

Well here I am. Starting fresh. And for a cause bigger and better than my humour or ego.

This ones for everyone living with Breast Cancer. Especially you, Nas.

I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help fight cancer.

Help Modesty and Nandita raise $500 in awareness of Breast Cancer and all the amazing women living with this disease.

We will film a full head shave in store in honor of our former Retail Manager Nasrin, who was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

Please join us and support our cause by donating to our page.

Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words ‘you have cancer’.

Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis, but there’s still so much work to be done.

Cancer Council needs our support more than ever this year. Every dollar raised gives hope for a cancer free future. By supporting my walk, you’re funding life-saving cancer treatments, prevention programs, and support services that ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
