For our mum, Raquel, and those affected by cancer
Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words ‘you have cancer’. Our mum, Raquel, was one of the people who heard those words many years ago. Since then multiple family members and friends have also been told that they have cancer.
It’s been almost three years since we lost our dearest mum to her long battle with cancer. During this time our family was shown so much love and support. Mum's death anniversary is close to Mothers Day and so to carry on Mum’s giving and generous nature, Ken and I have decided start this fundraiser.
The fundraiser involves two parts. Firstly, Mel & I will be donating our hair we having been growing for ~years~ on Saturday 7th May. We hope to show solidarity with those who have lost their hair due to treatment side effects and that the hair will go towards making wigs for those who need them. And secondly, we will be participating in the Mothers Day Classic run. This is a community run to get active for breast cancer research.
Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis, but there’s still so much work to be done.
We would also like this fundraiser to be a way of celebrating all mothers, acknowledging those who have lost mothers and acknowledging those who have been diagnosed or previously been diagnosed with cancer. We are here with you.

Cancer Council needs our support more than ever this year. Every dollar raised gives hope for a cancer free future. By supporting us, you’re funding life-saving cancer treatments, prevention programs, and support services that ensure no one has to face cancer alone.

I only met your mum a couple of times, through Kenny and she was just the funniest lady. It always made me chuckle seeing her in such a big car with just her head visible. I am so sorry to hear of her passing and battle with cancer. Sending you my love and all the best with the fundraiser.
