Mak’s chop to raise funds for cancer research

I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.

As many of you might know, my family has unfortunately been effected by cancer more than I ever expected. I recently lost my Pa to his fight against cancer, one of my lovely aunties is fighting breast cancer and just before my 18th birthday I lost my grandma to her fight against cancer. 

Pretty much I’m hoping to raise money to fund more life saving cancer research in the hopes that some day in the future people won’t have to fight cancer and go through this journey. It’s a tough one to go through as a family member and I can only imagine what it must be like fighting the battle as the individual who has cancer. 

I have been growing my hair for the past 5 years since I last chopped it off to donate and will be doing the same this year. I’ll be donating close to 40cm of my hair to raise money and be sending off the pony tail to be made into a wig through another charity.

Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words ‘you have cancer’.

Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis, but there’s still so much work to be done.
