My Story

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer amongst women in Australia. Approximately 57 Australians are diagnosed each and every day. That equates to over 20,000 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer each year. 1 in 7 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

I was one of those women back in 2016 when I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer. With no family history of cancer in the family, and all genetic testing coming back clear, it highlights the importance of self-examinations and knowing your body.

I underwent 8 rounds of chemotherapy, and then surgery, before being given the all clear. It was the longest and hardest 6 months. During my treatment, it became clear, that this is not just an illness that effects those over 40. There were 2 teenage girls, still in high school, who were undergoing treatment at the same time as me.

My doctor said because of my age, and no family history, that further testing was not necessary. I am so thankful I pushed to get tests completed, and it saved my life.

I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.

Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the words ‘you have cancer’.

Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis, but there’s still so much work to be done.
