I will be cutting my pony tail on the 7th November at school!I am cutting my pony tail and raising money for cancer!
Hi!
My name is Emilia and I am 8 years old. Earlier in the year I saw a video about an 11 year old girl named Matilda who had alopecia and lost all her hair.
After watching this video I did some research on alopecia. Alopecia is when your body fights your hair follicles and thinks your hair is a foreign object and rejects your hair and your hair falls out.
Matilda mentioned how wearing a fake hair wig causes lots of itchiness. I remembered that when I wore a wig from the dress up box, I couldn’t keep it on for too long as it made my head itchy. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like for Matilda to keep it on all day.
My research showed that hair is more valuable than gold when it is collected in pony tails. Hair makes boys and girls feel good and have confidence.
I also found that 20 pony tails of hair are needed to make one wig. Each wig has approximately 100,000 strands of hair.
I watched as Matilda received her wig. She said it felt like she had real hair. She felt confident, and normal again. It made me so happy to see her happy.
I decided I wanted to donate my hair and I wanted to do it at school with all my friends watching by the end of the year.
So I started to research how to donate my hair and found a hair dresser who would do this for me and met up with my school principal. At the same time I found out that people going through cancer treatment also lose their hair and use wigs. I’ve decided to also raise money for the Cancer Council Victoria as well as donate my hair.
Please join me to donate to the Cancer Council Victoria. On the 7th of November I will be cutting my pony tail off and donating it to Sustainable Salons so they can use it to make a wig for another little girl like Matilda.
