I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.
Every year more than 35,000 Victorians hear the
words ‘you have cancer’.
Thanks in part to generous Victorians, 7 in 10 of them
will survive five years after a cancer diagnosis. Unfortunately, that was not
the case for my uncle who was unable to come through after surgery and rounds
of chemo.
He was my closest, dearest and most favourite uncle ever since I
can remember. It was extremely difficult to watch his health worsen and
deteriorate quite rapidly as cancer returned for a second time. Watching how
cancer affects our loved ones has proven to be especially tough and stressful.
It's almost four years since my uncle had passed away. I still miss him
terribly.
Over the years I have seen close friends and colleagues
experience heartaches when people who are precious to them are affected by
cancer. Upon seeing how some were able to survive and declare to be
cancer-free, we are relieved and thankful of all the support that was given to
them in their fight against cancer. But there’s still so much work to be
done.
Cancer Council needs our support more than ever this year.
Every dollar raised gives hope for a cancer free future. Hence, for this
fundraising event, I will be cutting my hair which I have been growing for the
past four years.
Your support will be greatly appreciated as you will be funding
life-saving cancer treatments, prevention programs, and support services that
ensure no one has to face cancer alone.
When this fundraising event ends, I will also be donating my
hair to a sustainable salon that works with special organisations to distribute
hair to people experiencing hair loss as a result of illness.
