I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.
When I found out my mum had breast cancer last year, it had me all sorts of fucked up and I wasn’t even the one with cancer! I had never felt more caught off guard & I definitely felt like I cried more than my mum in this period.
My mum was in a tremendous amount of pain and exhaustion due to the chemo but arguably one of the worst parts to see was how upset she was with her hair loss. Hairdressers have a lot of pride in having long, beautiful, and thick hair and mum donned the beanie a lot to hide the areas of balding.
In solidarity, I told her I would grow out my virgin hair and when she decided it was time, she could lop it off and we’d send it away. I wanted to shave my entire head but mum put a halt to that and decided to make me look like Dora the Explorer (sans the bangs) instead. Not sure who won here...
I don’t think I need to go through why one should support Cancer Council because it seems like such a no-brainer. It’s a great organisation and it's tax deductible if you chuck more than two bucks in. I know it's been a tough year and a half for most people, if not everyone. Heck, sometimes I think I want to cry a bit when I see my income statement, but every little bit counts and we appreciate every dollar! If you can't donate, please share this page.
