EGGification for a cause

By Guthrie Douglass

Eggification Success

On Sunday the 22nd, a group of Jimmy’s “eggs” gathered at Carlton Gardens, bundled up in caps and beanies, ready to surprise him on his daily walk. Unfortunately, Jimmy wasn’t quite feeling up to it that day—so the eggs changed plans and waddled over to his place instead.

Arriving one by one, we managed to completely catch him off guard. Jimmy could hardly contain his surprise—at one point, the only thing he could say was, “Is that everyone now??”

After the big reveal, we all headed back to the park, where we shared plenty of laughs and captured some beautiful moments together. We even created an “egg flower,” an (almost full!) egg carton, and of course, a wholesome group photo to remember the day.

More than anything, we want Jimmy to know that he’s not facing this journey alone. We’re all right behind him, every step of the way. Thank you so much to everyone for your love and support—it truly means the world.

And a special shoutout to the Bendigo crew for taking the egg plunge too! 🥚💛

Standing with Jimmy: Strength, Solidarity, and the Fight Ahead

Nearly eight weeks ago, James Campbell – known to most of us as Jimmy – received a diagnosis that no one ever expects. Jimmy has been diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer, and is now facing an intense six‑month program of chemotherapy and radiation.

Like so many serious illnesses, this came completely out of the blue. What initially presented as hip and lower back pain — believed to be nothing more than an insignificant muscular injury — turned out to be something far more serious. Life changed in an instant.

Jimmy has dedicated his working life to caring for others through nursing and paramedicine, always showing up when people are at their most vulnerable. That makes this diagnosis feel like a particularly raw hand for someone who has spent so much of his life giving to others.

In true mate‑style solidarity, Jimmy’s friends have come together to brighten his hair-loss journey by surprising him with their own newly shaved egg heads. It’s a visible show of standing alongside Jimmy as he takes on the fight of his life — and a way for the wider community to rally around him during this incredibly tough time.

All funds raised will be donated to the Cancer Council, helping to support patients and families today while contributing to vital research that works towards better treatments and, ultimately, cures for all cancer types.

This shave is about more than losing a bit of hair — it’s about support, solidarity, and showing Jimmy that he’s not facing this journey alone.
