Finishing line.
Well folks I made it.
After, 100km of running and walking, 130,000 steps, 2,136m of vertical climbing, and 9,000 Calories burnt, I crossed the finishing line 16 hours, 28 mins and 8 seconds after the start.
It was an amazing feeling to have completed it and so pleased that all the training came together.
One more week to go.
Only one more week until the event. I had a great training week, completing over 65km of running and tapering well for the event of Saturday.I’m fundraising for Cancer Council Victoria to help stop cancer.
Twelve years ago, my Father passed away from Cancer at the young age of 63. For the particular cancer he was diagnosed with, there was no identifiable cause and no cure. It appears to be just one of those things that impact some people in life. It was extremely sad to see him, and my Mother, miss the opportunity to retire together and tick-off many of the bucket list items that they had planned to do in their later years.
Since then, I have tried to live a healthier life and keep myself fit. Whilst it has been slow progress at times, in the last 8 months, I have found that spark to push me along to significantly improve my running capability and on 16th September will run the Surf Coast Century, a 100km trail run in Anglesea, Victoria.
This will be my second Ultra Marathon, the first being a bit shorter at 70km. This time I am significantly fitter and have run over 1,900 km this year so far and 1,250km in the last 4 months.
I am fundraising for the Cancer Council, to help find a cure for cancer so that others like my father will be able to retire peacefully and get to tick-off their bucket list. It is also to celebrate that discipline and effort I have put into training for this race over the last 8 months. I am looking forward to finishing in under 15 hours.
