I’ve been tossing and turning about the idea of shaving my head. My hair is like the love of my life but as someone who very nearly lost my life to brain cancer, I am also very aware that I am fortunate to now be able to say that I survived. I will forever be grateful to the universe for giving me a wake up call, even if it was mine and my family’s worst nightmare. Throughout treatment I lost hardly any hair and I want to be able to give what I have to someone who is not so fortunate.
Being diagnosed at the very young age of 10 (and on Christmas eve) I had to skip a huge chunk of my childhood but it also meant that I saw tiny babies, INFANTS, in that hospital fighting for their life. Shaving my head is the least I can do so that a precious soul can have beautiful hair so that’s a compromise I want to make. As the ‘cancer kid’ it was excruciatingly painful during school, I wasn’t bullied because of it but I experienced people using my illness for personal gain (I was even told that it should have killed me).
No one, no matter what, should EVER have to go through that. I’ve always wanted to shave my head but have never had the courage. I have even been given a research program in my name and if that can help find a cure for cancer as well as shaving my head then I would be happy to shave it.
